Why is it necessary to take a Dexa Scan / BMD Test?

Bone Density Test does not require any special preparation. You can have your usual diet and wear your comfortable dress. Avoid wearing dress with buttons or zippers as metallic content in them can interfere with X-Ray images. You should not take any calcium supplements for 24 hours prior to the bone density test.

What is the procedure of Dexa Scan?

During the Dexa Scan / BMD Test you will be asked to lie down on a table which has a scanner attached to it.  The technician will scan the body part with the help of the scanner. The X-Rays measure the amount of minerals and calcium present in your bone and estimates the density or thickness of your bones.

Is there any risk associated with the Bone Mineral Density Test?

Though there is some radiation exposure in the Dexa Scan / bone density test, the radiation levels are very low and do not have adverse effects. Inform your concerned doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding as the radiation may affect the child.

What can I expect from the BMD Test result?
