What is Doppler Test?
Doppler Ultrasound is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to detect the problems in our blood flow. Doppler scanner can detect clots, blockage in the blood vessels, plaque build-up, and many other diseases while tracking the blood flow of the individual.
It is a completely safe and non-invasive procedure that takes 15-20 minutes to estimate the issues with your blood flow.
How is the doppler test performed?
Your Doppler test will be performed by a sonographer (ultrasound technician) in an ultrasound room. During the Doppler test, you will be asked to lie on an examination table next to a sonography machine. You will be expected to expose the region where the scan has to be done.
Then the sonographer will apply the gel to the area and rub it with the help of a handheld device called a transducer. A transducer is a probe that transfers the sound waves from the body to the computer. The computer reads the graph and changes it into the form of images.
Generally, one should not carry any metallic ornament during the scan. Preferably wear loose-fitted and comfortable clothes (without embellishments). People who smoke regularly should stop smoking 4-5 hours prior to the Doppler ultrasound. Your sonographer may ask you to intake a large amount of water if you have an abdomen doppler test.
