Why is an Echo Scan performed?
An Echo test is performed to evaluate the functioning of the heart. It helps detect many heart problems. These problems can either be harmless or life-threatening and need a proper diagnosis. Echo test helps detect these diseases and helps to monitor the following –

What is the procedure for an Echo Test?
During an Echo test, you will be made to lie down on your back or on your left side on the examination table. The physician will then apply a gel to your chest which helps in the proper conduction of sound waves and eliminates the air between the skin and a probe called a transducer.
The transducer is moved around the chest to take pictures of the heart. You may be asked to change positions or hold your breath for a short while. Sometimes the transducer is held firmly to your chest to get better images, which might feel a little uncomfortable but there is nothing to worry about.
