An ultrasound follicular study is also referred to as a follicular tracking scan/follicular monitoring scan. Ultrasound follicular study helps to examine the follicles within the ovaries and the uterus.
Follicles are the small fluid-filled sacs found inside a woman’s ovary where the egg grows. The number of follicles presents inside the ovary tells the doctor about their state of fertility.
Ultrasound Follicular Study / Ovulation study is done to detect the following

- Broken follicles at an early stage
This scan also evaluates the size, shape, and condition of the uterus, ovary, and womb lining.

Follicular ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to visualize the uterus and the follicles present inside the ovary. The sonographer will ask you to lie on your back on a bed with your knees bent. You will be asked to undress from the waist down and will be covered with a sheet.
A small instrument called transducer which emits sound waves (2 to 3 inches of the transducer tip) is gently inserted into the vagina to get a clear picture of the uterus and the ovary. The sound waves help to create echoes and send the data to the computer. The computer then translates the data into the images. The images processed helps the sonographer to prepare the report.
It usually takes about 10 to 20 minutes to complete an ultrasound follicular study.
