What are the preparations required?
Normally, MRI scan does not require any special preparation. You may be asked to change into a gown provided by the lab.
You are restricted to carry objects with metallic contents inside the MRI scan room.
Patients with medical implants are restricted to take normal MRI scan. So they have developed a new advanced imaging technique called Maverick MRI for patients with metal implants.
To produce more enhanced image contrast dye may be used. It may be either given orally or injected in the vein few hours before the scan.
How is it done?
You will be asked to lie down on a table that slides into the MRI machine. The magnets rotates around the body part that is to be examined. It creates strong magnetic force inside the body.
These signals will be picked by the MRI machine and will be sent to a special computer to process into image.
The entire process will be monitored by a technician from a different room with the help of microphone and speakers.
It takes up to 90 minutes to complete the entire procedure.
What are the risks in MRI scan?
Generally there are no risks involved in MRI scan.
Because of the contrast dye used you may experience allergic reactions. If you have any kidney disorders the contrast dye may result in kidney failure.
